Developed by Biofeedback Therapist Jennifer Stephens, M.A.
"Jennifer Stephens first approached me about her interest in the treatment of urinary incontinence in 1992...When Jennifer described newer bladder control exercises which seemingly offered a “risk-free” alternative to surgery, I was very interested if slightly skeptical. At that time, there were only a few studies which discussed “pelvic floor rehabilitation” via biofeedback techniques. Jennifer’s experience with biofeedback and her excitement over its use to improve pelvic floor strength and decrease incontinence convinced me to look further.
I decided to take a chance on this new approach to incontinence and was not disappointed by what I observed over the years to come. My patients were clearly getting better after seeing Jennifer...."

Question: Frequent urination and overactive bladder for a year and a half, peeing too much, help!!?
(Posted by: Petey on 2009-11-28 06:25:33)
For the past year and a half, it might actually be longer than that, I've constantly had to pee at minimum every hour or sometimes even less. I can get the slightest urge to go and a few minutes later I'm panicking cuz it feels like I really have to go, I'm not sure if it's a prostate problem or whY because I kinda feel the muscles down there tensing up and I feel like "omg I have to go NOW " and there's not much of a feeling that I can hold it for very long. Sometimes I get extremely strong urges and then when I get out of the car it almost disappears completely, or when I go, only a tiny bit comes out. I'm a 23 year old guy and I get so upset because I'm tired of being a nuisance on long trips or even short ones because there are days where I have to go about every 10 minutes. I recently went to see the doctor and they took a urine sample and a blood test and both turned out completely normal so I don't have diabetes or thyroid problems or anything. And I'm quitting alcohol because that only aggravates the problem 1, 000- fold, makes me have to pee every 5 minutes, I'm not kidding. So idk what to do anymore about it =/ Is there any food I could eat, should I keep taking multi- vitamins every day, should I drink more, or what?? I might see a urologist but idk when or how, cuz I don't have health insurance, my dad would have to help me work something out with his doctor. Any advice??? How do I get back to normal?? And also, after I go poop it also feels like I have to pee more frequently. |

You have let this go a year and a half tooooo long. As you well know this is not normal and when our body is not functioning as normal it is trying to tell us something. What you describe sounds very much like an enlarged prostate. The prostate surrounds the urethra and if it becomes enlarged it will produce all the symptoms you describe. You are much too young for this to happen normal. Usually happens to men over 40. It is often refereed to as benign prostatic hyperplasia. Many men with an enlarged prostate have no symptoms. If symptoms are present, they commonly include the following: * a weak stream of urine; * difficulty starting urination; * dribbling of urine, especially after urinating; * a sense of not fully emptying the bladder; * leaking of urine; * more frequent urination and a strong and sudden desire to urinate, especially at night; and * blood in the urine. Clearly if blood is involved you must see a doctor NOW. I am surprised that after seeing a doctor they did not do more than just take tests. They should have referred you directly to a urologist. At the very least they should have performed a rectal exam to determine if the prostate is swollen. Did they do that? You are way to young for this to be happening so you need to have this checked out. There are many other things it could be beside your prostate. Go to Google and do a search on prostate. You will find a wealth of information about it including other causes for your symptoms. DO NOT PUT THIS OFF ANY LONGER. |
